True Meaning of Christmas

It is another season of festivities that signififies the love of God that compelled Him to give us His only begotten son; to redeem us from our sinful ways and reconcile us back to God.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Wikipedia cites the true meaning of Christmas is “to give up one’s very self – to think only of others – and how to bring the greatest happiness to others”. This summarises love – as detailed in 1 Corinthians 13.

While a specific day is set aside to celebrate and show our gratitude for what God did for humanity, we should not forget the need to be grateful at all times, and not just a specific day of the month, David said, I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

According to Matthew 25:35-40, Jesus gave us a hint of where we can find Him and what we need to do, i.e

• Provide for the hungry
• Provide for the thirsty
• Take the stranger in
• Clothe the naked
• Visit the sick
• Visit the prisoner

This season, Luke638 will be putting a smile on the faces of about 70 less privileged families by providing
food hampers for each family.

In conclusion, apostle Paul said in Acts 20:35b that “It is more blessed to give than to receive” and we know there will always be needy and poor people among us – caused by various circumstance. However, it is our responsibility to take care of such people as much as we can. This is an opportunity to be a blessing to someone – no matter how little or small you may be able to give out. God sees our intent and weigh our heart when we open our hands to the needy, however little or large we share.

Happy Christmas! Happy Christmas!! Happy Christmas!!!
